The energy added by renewable energy sources to the grid is captured as data payload which is then recorded on blockchain. To ensure zero-tampering, our alliance partner’s state of the art smart-edge PiQube gateway devices are used that are equipped with secure ID Chips performing authentication with a key-server to make sure rogue devices are not allowed in the eco-system. The secure ID Chips also encrypt data with support for several transport protocols including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, 3G, 4G, LTE, LoRa, NB-IoT etc.
The Ethereum Blockchain is used for the purpose where information is stored in a cryptographically secure, immutable data store.
Not all energy produced is the same. It differs by several factors including the quality and reliabilioty of the power. The system monitors these metrics to compute a quality score for a given producer. Producers receive a renewable energy certification for their output and this is tokenized in the form of an ERC-721 Digital Asset.
Reputation of producers is monitored by smart contracts assisted by Machine Learning Algorithms running in the background.
Just as the first generation of the internet has seen an explosion in e-commerce, the second generation is bound to witness a different form of e-commerce that involves machine to machine transactions, the energy producers will be the sellers in this system, buyers would be the other systems that need the renewable energy credit to off-set pollution and comply with regulations. Buyers will pay seller in crypto-currency and receive the renewable energy certificates in the form of ERC-721 Tokens.
